Security Alert and Safeguards
The Comptroller's office recently identified the exposure of three data files that contained individuals' personal information, such as name and Social Security number. The records of about three and a half million people were erroneously placed on an agency server that was accessible to the public. This incident only affects individuals whose information was included in data transferred by the Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) and the Employees Retirement System of Texas (ERS).
In response to this incident, we have created a website, www.TXsafeguard.org, to provide additional details and recommended steps and resources for protecting identity information.
